Will Jon Jones EVER Learn?

Just when you thought Jon Jones had finally figured it out, and gotten his life back on track, he takes a huge step backwards again. Jones has reportedly failed yet another drug test, this time for the anabolic steroid Turinabol. This comes on the heels of his recent dominating victory over Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, winning back the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. This was his first fight back in the Octagon since April 2016, and only his 2nd fight since January 2015.

Jones, who is possibly the sport’s best 205 pound athlete, has now been suspended three times, which has cost him tons of money, time in the Octagon, and popularity with fans. Once the sports most beloved, exciting, and up and coming athlete, now Jones is becoming an easy target for hatred and someone who is being labeled as a cheater. As one of Jones’ biggest fans, it’s hard for me to write this, because I never thought he would put himself into a position to screw up again, and yet he has proven me wrong. When I met Jones back in 2014, he was so likeable, nice, and easygoing, it was hard to ever imagine him in this current position. Now, we might not ever be able to see what Jones could have become in the world of MMA.

While Dana White has said that Jones will not be stripped of his newly won title, you have to wonder how long Jones will be suspended for again if this new failed drug test stands. The UFC could suspend him for multiple years, which would take the sport’s best pound for pound athlete out of contention during the prime of his career. If he were to make a comeback, it would be at 33 or 34, and who knows what he would have left in the tank at that time.

After his last fight, Jones called out Brock Lesnar, which would have set up one of the biggest fights in MMA history! There was also talk of him facing current Heavyweight Champ Stipe Miocic, which would have been a super fight like we have never witnessed. With these new allegations hanging over his head, and over the UFC, we as the fans can only sit here in shock, hoping that this test result comes back as just a false positive. If not, the fans (and Jones) will both be robbed of his glorious career.
