With the drafting of Lonzo Ball comes a new hope for the Lakers. But, it isn’t just Ball
that is giving the Lakers faithful positive hopes! Kyle Kuzma, Thomas Bryant, and
Josh Hart were all great draft picks for new GM Rob Pelinka and President of
Operations Magic Johnson. Pelinka and Johnson were able to secure these picks,
partially in part to the trade that shipped out D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov
for Brook Lopez and the pick that brought us Kuzma. (Thanks again for that Mozgov and Deng
contracts Mitch and Jim. Don’t let the door slap you on the ass on the way out of

The NBA Summer League was a chance for fans and the rest of the NBA to see what
all the Lonzo hype was about, and the Lakers delivered! They started slow but
finished strong, winning the Summer League with Ball winning MVP
of the League, and Kuzma winning MVP of the Finals Game. The Lakers fans were in
full force for all of their games, as this was possibly the most exciting and packed
crowds for the Summer League, with the Boston vs. LA game actually selling out!

Rounding out this young roster is Brandon Engram, who looked great during the
Summer League before rolling his ankle late in the fist game. He was then pulled out
for the rest of the Summer League to keep him healthy for the season. Julius Randle
has really whipped himself into shape in the off-season, and should be able to run
circles around his defenders. The additions of Brooke Lopez and Kentavious
Caldwell-Pope gives the Lakers true starters in this league, and hopefully they can
hang onto them for years to come. Clarkson returns to his 6th man role with the
signing of Caldwell-Pope and he should be able to lead the 2nd unit in scoring, while
providing the starters with a much-needed rest. Add Larry Nance Jr., Ivica Zubac,
and Corey Brewer to that 2nd unit, and hopefully they will be able to not only keep
the Lakers in games, but also put a hurting to other team’s bench players.

While The Lakers might still miss out on the playoffs, they will be far more
competitive, fun to watch and should make the team more attractive for all the free
agents in the summer of 2018. #WeWantLebron
